Automotive machining

Machining techniques are widely used in the automotive industry for the manufacture of various automotive components such as exterior body sheet, internal components, and windshield. Produced in an automobile assembly line that requires the same type of components for production in large volumes. The individual components are fabricated using machining processes and transferred to the assembly line for final production.

A machining techniques the most common cars in use today is known as the machining of wire (EDM). A wire electric discharge machining (EDM) uses a wire electrode which is moved through the conductive workpiece. The electrically charged wire is controlled by a system of computer numerically controlled (CNC).

Wire EDM removes material from the workpiece by EDM. During this process, the wire never touches the conductive part. The electrically charged wire to leave a path of workpiece, which is slightly larger than the wire. Often, a 0.010 “wire is used, which creates a 0.013” to 0.014 “gap. The electrode wire can pass once through the conductive, and can not be reused.

The gap between the wire and the workpiece generates high voltage electrical pulses. The high voltage spark and controlled melt and vaporize a small portion of the workpiece. Each spark produces a temperature of 10 000 ° C, where the energy resulting from the power source determines the size of the penetration into the ignition material. With the improvement of the cutting speed, reliability, unattended operation, and accuracy is also becoming popular in many other sectors such as aerospace, defense and electronics.

Configuring multiple parts unattended operation and saves a significant amount of time for the operator, which can be profitably used in other work functions. The wire EDM system is very profitable and can be operated at about $ 4 per hour during normal court.
